About TNPSC:
- Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has released a notification for Combined Civil Services Examination – Group 2 and Group 2 A Services on its official website.
- Moreover, there are a total of 2327 vacancies across various state departments, including Assistant Inspector, Deputy Commercial Tax Officer, Probation Officer, Special Assistant, Assistant Section Officer, Forester, and others.
- Of these vacancies, 1820 are for Group 2 A and 507 are for Group 2.
- Selection will be through prelims/mains exams followed by an interview. Additionally, the prelims exam is scheduled for September 19, 2024, statewide.
Important dates for the TNPSC Group 2 and Group 2 A Services:
- Date of Notification: 20.06.2024
- Last date and time for submission of online application: 19.07.2024, 11.59 P.M.
- Application Correction Window period: From 24.07.2024, 12.01 A.M. to 26.07.2024, 11.59 P.M.
- Date and time of preliminary examination: 14.09.2024, FN 09.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M.
- Education: All Graduates.
- Date of main examination: Will be announced later at the time of the declaration of the results of the preliminary examination.

- Candidates must possess adequate knowledge in Tamil as of the date of the notification.
Adequate knowledge is defined by several criteria:
Educational Qualification in Tamil:
- Passed SSLC examination (10th standard) or its equivalent with Tamil as one of the languages, OR
- Passed HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) examination (12th standard) or Degree examination with Tamil as one of the languages, OR
- Studied the High School Course in Tamil medium, OR
- Passed the SSLC examination or its equivalent examination in Tamil medium, OR
- Passed the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
Criteria for Adequate Knowledge:
These criteria establish what constitutes adequate knowledge of Tamil, ensuring candidates meet the language requirement through their educational background or specific language proficiency tests.
Documentation Required:
Candidates must upload or produce the following documents when called for:
- Mark sheets of SSLC / HSC / Degree / PG Degree, demonstrating Tamil as one of the languages studied or medium of instruction, OR
- Proof of having passed the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
Consequences of Failure to Produce Documents:
- Failure to provide the required documents to demonstrate adequate knowledge of Tamil will result in the candidate being required to pass the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil conducted by the Commission within two years from the date of appointment.
- Failure to do so will lead to discharge from service.
How to Apply Online
- Website: Candidates must apply exclusively through the Commission’s website, given below.
One Time Registration:
- Initially, candidates must register on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform on the website. Subsequently, they should proceed to complete the online application for the exam.
- During registration, candidates must have their recent photograph (20 KB – 50 KB, named “Photograph.jpg”) and signature (10 KB – 20 KB, named “Signature.jpg”) scanned at 200 DPI resolution, saved on a CD/DVD/Pen drive for upload.
- OTR does not constitute an application for any specific post but serves as a repository of candidate information.
- Each exam requires a separate online application.
- An active email ID and mobile number are mandatory for OTR. Candidates must keep their email ID and password secure and not share them.
- Queries regarding OTR or online applications will be addressed only from a registered email ID.
- Linking Aadhaar with OTR is mandatory for identification purposes, with information used solely for authentication.
Details During OTR:
- Candidates should provide accurate details such as SSLC Register Number, Certificate Number, Month and Year of Passing, Medium of Instruction, and Board Name during registration.
- Candidates with multiple SSLC mark sheets should enter details from the final attempt where they passed.
- All details in OTR are crucial as they form the basis for subsequent applications.
One-Time Registration (OTR) Edit:
- Candidates can edit OTR details as needed by uploading supporting documents.
- Corrections must be made before submitting the online application to avoid rejection.
- Failure to follow instructions regarding OTR or online applications will not be the responsibility of the Commission.
Online Application:
- To apply for a post, candidates should click “APPLY” on the Commission’s website using their existing User ID and Password from OTR.
- Before proceeding, candidates should verify and confirm their OTR details displayed.
- Additional details required for specific recruitment should be filled after confirming OTR details.
- A recent color photograph (3.0 cm x 4.5 cm, 20 KB – 50 KB) against a white background is mandatory, with the candidate’s name and date printed.
- Signature (6.0 cm x 2.0 cm, 10 KB – 20 KB) in blue or black ink should be uploaded as “Signature.jpg”.
- Ensure clarity in photograph and signature uploads to prevent rejection of the online application.
